On Tuesday, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI) in Karnal marked International Bicycle Day with a vibrant cycle rally. This event aimed to highlight the joys of cycling and its benefits for personal health and the environment.
Dheer Singh, the Director and Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-NDRI, kicked off the rally. He stressed how cycling can be an easy addition to our daily lives. Not only does it improve fitness, but it also helps reduce our carbon footprint.
Singh encouraged everyone, students and staff alike, to embrace cycling. It’s a way to boost personal health and contribute to larger environmental efforts. Cycling can be a fun mode of transport and an eco-friendly choice.
The rally involved several key figures, including Ashish Kumar Singh, Joint Director (Academic), Rajan Sharma, Joint Director (Research), and Anurag Saxena, Head of Division. It was coordinated by SUNDRI, the student council of NDRI. Prince, the president of SUNDRI, led a group of 140 students from various programs, such as BTech, PG, and PhD, who enthusiastically participated in the event.
As they cycled through the campus, the participants promoted the importance of healthy living and environmental care. At the end of the rally, they pledged to make eco-friendly choices and protect the environment.
Cycling has gained popularity as a sustainable practice. According to a recent survey by the World Health Organization, cycling can reduce the risk of chronic diseases while also benefiting the environment. More cities worldwide are investing in bike lanes, making cycling safer and more appealing.
Overall, this rally was not just a fun outing; it was a reminder of how small changes, like choosing to cycle, contribute to a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner planet.
