AUDA-NEPAD, the African Union’s development agency, is joining forces with Kenya’s Special Envoy for Climate Change for a significant media briefing. This event will take place during informal talks aimed at enhancing Africa’s role in the G20 discussions on climate, the environment, and sustainability.
Over two days, experts from African think tanks, intergovernmental organizations, and policy analysts will gather to share insights and align their perspectives. The goal is to shape the African Union’s contributions to G20 dialogues.
During the media briefing, key representatives will highlight essential African priorities regarding climate change. They include members from AUDA-NEPAD, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the Special Envoy to the Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change.
The discussions will focus on three critical areas:
- Transitioning to climate-resilient economies
- Shifting towards low-emission development
- Finding practical methods for implementation, especially in finance
This meeting reflects a growing recognition of climate-related challenges. According to a recent report by the World Bank, Africa is among the regions most vulnerable to climate change, with some areas facing severe droughts and floods. Collaboration and innovative financing solutions are paramount.
User reactions on social media highlight a positive sentiment around these discussions. Many see this as an opportunity for African voices to be amplified on a global stage, emphasizing the need for sustainable development.
The briefing is scheduled for October 10, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1 PM at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg. For participation, contact Ayanda Siswana at +27(0)72 597 8219 or via email at ayanda@flowsa.com.
