India’s coach, Gautam Gambhir, believes that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play crucial roles in the Champions Trophy. He downplayed the excitement surrounding their match against Pakistan, emphasizing that the team must focus on every game.
Kohli and Rohit faced challenges with their form during the Australia tour, which raised questions about their futures in the team. However, they have returned to domestic cricket to prepare for the tournament. At the Naman Awards on February 1, Gambhir noted their determination and eagerness to represent India.
“They are both hungry to play for the country,” Gambhir said. “The Champions Trophy is a different ball game compared to the World Cup. Every match is a knockout, and we have to be at our best. Winning five matches is essential for us to lift the trophy.” He added that both players greatly contribute to the team dynamic and the sport in India.
India will face Pakistan in a highly anticipated match on February 23. Despite the hype surrounding it, Gambhir stressed that the team views all five matches as equally important.
“We’re not treating the 23rd as the most critical game,” he explained. “Every game counts. Our goal is to win all our matches.” He acknowledged that the intensity may rise during the India-Pakistan clash, but the focus remains on the game itself.
India will kick off their Champions Trophy journey against Bangladesh on February 20. The competition promises to be thrilling as they aim for success on the global stage.
