July and August are busy vacation months in Europe. I’ve been working with European companies looking to expand into the U.S. for over six years, and I’ve noticed how seriously they take their holidays. For instance, I recently spoke with a CEO planning to swim with sharks during his month off. He even sent me amazing photos of tiger sharks. While he enjoys this unique hobby, he still has to check in on business a little. Most Europeans, though, focus on rest, relaxation, and reconnecting with loved ones during their holidays.

In contrast, many Americans don’t use all their vacation days. They might be too busy or think they’ll fall behind. But vacations are essential. They help us unwind and recharge. Studies show that taking time off boosts productivity and fosters creativity. Returning from vacation often brings renewed energy. For example, as a manager, I noticed that time away allowed my team members to step up and grow. Their performance showed me how well I trained them.

As summer progresses, it’s a great time to think about vacations. School resumes soon, and children grow up fast. My daughter once gave me a plaque that says, “Take vacations. Go as many places as you can. Money can be made again, but memories cannot.” We have lots of family vacation memories that we cherish.

During my corporate days, paid vacations were standard. Back then, we took family trips even when funds were tight. Now, as a business owner, things are different, but we still prioritize vacations. We’re planning a trip to Florida and another to Scotland with my daughter and her husband next year.

The group included millennials who value vacations and family time, often preferring more paid time off than previous generations. Companies looking to grow in the Shale Crescent USA region are drawn by its vast market potential and accessible energy, primarily natural gas. However, a key question they have is about building a workforce. It’s crucial not only to recruit qualified workers but also to retain them. Younger generations prioritize vacations and work-life balance. They understand that no one wants to look back on life wishing they’d spent more time at work rather than enjoying experiences with family and friends.

In the end, holidays aren’t just breaks from routine; they’re crucial for personal well-being and company success.
