New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) – India aims to strengthen its automotive sector through home-grown technology. The government is making bold moves to foster innovation in this field.

Recently, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This partnership will promote indigenous solutions in the automotive arena.

The agreement focuses on several key areas: joint research and development, establishing new research opportunities, setting testing standards, and providing cybersecurity solutions. Together, they will explore new business opportunities that can transform mobility in India.

ICAT will work alongside the automotive industry to pinpoint technological needs. Meanwhile, C-DAC will create customized solutions to meet those needs. C-DAC is set to spearhead the development of new technologies, while ICAT will handle testing, validation, and certifications, connecting directly with automobile companies.

According to the government, this collaboration aims to reduce reliance on foreign technologies, fostering a rise in local “Swadeshi” initiatives. This marks a significant step towards a self-reliant future under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

The signing ceremony took place at the ‘Traffic InfraTech Expo – 2025’ at Bharat Mandapam, signifying the importance of this partnership in reshaping India’s mobility landscape.

Experts emphasize that such collaborations can significantly boost India’s innovation capabilities, potentially making it a global player in the automotive technology sector. A recent report by the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries notes that investing in local innovation can lead to a 30% increase in efficiency within the next five years.

As the automotive industry evolves, public interest in sustainable and efficient transport increases. According to a recent survey, 68% of consumers are willing to support brands that prioritize local and eco-friendly solutions.

This partnership isn’t just about technology; it’s about creating a robust future for India’s automotive landscape, paving the way for an era of innovation and self-sufficiency.
