Cevotec from Munich, Germany, is making strides in composite tank reinforcement technology. Their recent updates include enhancements to their Artist Studio CAD/CAM software and the introduction of the Smart Gripper concept.

The Artist Studio software now supports finite element analysis (FEA). This improves the accuracy of simulations for components with complex shapes. A new mapping algorithm precisely models reinforcements for pressure vessel domes, aiding in structural assessments and boosting product quality. The goal is to help manufacturers adopt tank reinforcement designs with ease.

To better suit strongly curved aerostructures, Artist Studio now offers support for trapezoidal patches. This feature lets users fine-tune gaps and overlaps in large aerospace components, improving laminate quality and production efficiency.

Additionally, Cevotec has introduced the Smart Gripper. This tool enhances flexibility in laying up composite aerostructures. The Smart Grippers can adapt to both convex and concave surfaces, ensuring consistent performance while reducing the need for extra steps like intermediate debulking. They also feature controlled suction zones for handling patches of different sizes, boosting flexibility and output. An active gripper deformation feature is in the works to further enhance its capabilities.

Recently, the Smart Gripper’s versatility helped the National Composite Center (NCC) demonstrate that FPP can recycle up to 80% of dry fiber waste during manufacturing.

In collaboration with Fuji Industries, Cevotec has also set up a Sampa Pro-PV FPP system for the NCC in Japan, set to launch in March. The company’s work on composite tank dome reinforcements, alongside partners Cikoni and Roth Composite Machinery, earned recognition with the 2024 CAMX Combined Strength Award.
