Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has teamed up with France’s Exail to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities with a new Unmanned Mine Counter-Measure (MCM) Suite. This partnership aims to equip Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs) with advanced technology that allows for the safe detection and neutralization of naval mines.
L&T will act as the main contractor, offering the suite to shipyards that are part of the Navy’s future MCMV program. Exail will contribute its proven MCM technology, which has been used effectively by various navies around the world.
This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening India’s maritime security and defense manufacturing. It aligns with India’s initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, focusing on local industrial partnerships and development.
Arun Ramchandani, Senior VP at L&T, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. He highlighted L&T’s strengths in defense engineering and system integration, along with Exail’s extensive experience in drone technology. Similarly, Jerome Bendell, CEO of Exail, mentioned the shared goal of advancing unmanned maritime systems in India.
According to a recent report by the International Maritime Organization, nearly 1,000 naval mines were detected globally last year, underlining the growing need for effective countermeasures. With this new partnership, L&T and Exail not only aim to address this issue but also contribute to the future of naval defense in India.
