Unlocking Knowledge: IGI Global and Columbia University Forge New Open Access Partnership

IGI Global Scientific Publishing has teamed up with Columbia University Libraries to boost support for researchers connected to the university. This open access agreement allows authors affiliated with Columbia to enjoy a 5% discount on article processing charges when publishing in IGI Global’s nearly 200 open access journals.

Nick Newcomer, Senior VP of Sales & Marketing at IGI Global, stated that this partnership underscores the importance of making scholarly research more accessible. Open access is all about removing barriers and enhancing the visibility of academic work.

Additionally, IGI Global provides a flat-fee open access publishing option that lets libraries support unlimited open access for their researchers at a predictable cost. This model aims to simplify the financial aspects of publishing, making it easier for institutions to contribute to open access initiatives.

As more universities and institutions embrace open access publishing, the push for wider availability of scholarly research continues to grow. According to a recent study by the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, open access publishing has surged, with over 50% of research articles published globally now being freely available. This shift not only enhances research visibility but also encourages collaboration and innovation across disciplines.

Overall, the agreement between IGI Global and Columbia University is a significant step toward a more accessible academic landscape. It reflects a growing trend in research publishing that values openness and collaboration.
