“People in the Basin want clear, relevant information about climate change and how they can respond,” said Will Nixon, the Director of Delivery of Benefits at Columbia Basin Trust. The updated website is designed to provide users with tools and inspiration to contribute to a more resilient future.

Since its original launch in 2019, the website has evolved. The new design offers better navigation and features organized content focused on three main themes:

• Understanding Local Impacts: This section helps users see how climate change affects their environment, economy, and community, including specific climate projections for their areas.

• Learning What You Can Do: Here, visitors can find practical suggestions for reducing emissions and conserving resources, making it simple for individuals and households to get involved.

• Exploring Local Solutions: This section highlights community-led projects, from clean energy initiatives to adaptation efforts aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change.

“Everything on the website has been tailored to the unique needs of the Basin,” said Lauren Rethoret, Project Manager and Lead Researcher at Selkirk College. The goal is to equip users with knowledge to reduce emissions and foster local resilience.

Recent studies show that communities that take proactive measures against climate change often fare better during extreme weather events. According to a 2022 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), regions that engage in collaborative local initiatives are more successful in adapting to changing conditions.
