Participants with strong adherence to the AHEI were found to be 86% more likely to age healthfully by the age of 70 and had a 2.2 times higher chance of healthy aging at 75 compared to those with weaker adherence.

Analyses also revealed that higher consumption of ultra-processed foods correlated with poorer health outcomes. This is vital as many people often overlook the impact of packaged foods filled with added sugars and unhealthy fats.
