People who support the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) movement have one clear priority: lowering healthcare costs. A recent KFF poll shows that 42% of MAHA voters ranked this issue above all others, even those typically associated with the movement, like vaccine safety and pesticide-free foods.
The MAHA movement, led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., aims to promote healthier lifestyles. This includes moving away from processed foods and encouraging exercise. However, they’ve faced backlash from health experts for questioning vaccine science and the origins of conditions like autism.
In the poll, 21% of respondents prioritized reducing chemical additives in food, while 10% wanted to reevaluate vaccine safety. The importance of healthcare costs crossed political lines. Among the MAHA supporters, about 50% are registered Republicans, 30% are Independents, and 15% are Democrats. Notably, 57% of Democrat MAHA voters also listed healthcare as their top concern.
This concern extends beyond just priorities; 56% of MAHA voters say healthcare costs will significantly impact their voting decisions in the 2026 midterm elections. For some, it could decide whether they vote at all.
