A new report by DP World reveals that 92% of leaders in shipping and logistics see dedicated inter-Americas supply chains as crucial for their planning. Half of them even consider these connections “very important.”
In collaboration with the Journal of Commerce and S&P Global, the report titled “Shifting Supply Chains: Navigating the New Inter-Americas Trade Landscape,” dives into how regional trade dynamics are changing. It highlights essential factors driving this shift toward stronger supply chains within the Americas.
Based on insights from 100 executives and managers in shipping and logistics, the report shows a growing trend in regional trade models reshaping the logistics industry.
Here are some important findings:
- Increasing Importance: 29% of leaders report significant growth in the importance of inter-Americas supply chains in the last three years, with 39% noting a moderate increase.
- Operational Hurdles: Top issues identified include rising shipping costs (36%), delays in cargo transit (31%), and customs clearance delays (15%).
- Growth Areas: Notable growth in Mexico’s nearshoring, and industrial activities in Colombia and Costa Rica highlight the shift toward diversifying supply chains in the region.
Morten Johansen, COO of DP World Americas, mentioned that recent years have shown the need for flexible supply chains. The geographic advantages of the Americas offer businesses increased reliability and less risk.
The report goes beyond operational insights, showcasing economic opportunities rising within the Americas. A significant 88% of survey participants believe that Latin America’s expanding market potential will influence their future strategies.
