Unlocking NFL Free Agency: 6 Key Insights from the First Wave of Roster Moves

Titans Boost O-Line and Hint at Draft Strategy

The Titans have been quiet in free agency, but they’ve made a notable effort to improve their offensive line. This upgrade is crucial for their performance in the coming season.

Some fans were surprised to see Dan Moore land a contract worth $20.5 million per year. It might seem high, especially since Pro Football Focus reported that he allowed 12 sacks last season while playing for struggling quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. However, context matters here; both QBs were among the most-sacked players in the league over the past few seasons.

At just 26 years old, Moore might not be the elite player some hoped for, but he strengthens the line. On top of that, the Titans signed 35-year-old guard Kevin Zeitler. Although he’s aging, Zeitler continues to perform at a high level. His experience will be valuable for the team.

These additions could mean a change in positions for rookie JC Latham, who may be moved to right tackle, his best spot. Last season, the Titans relied on players like Nicholas Petit-Frere, Dillon Radunz, and Daniel Brunskill, who served well as backups but needed upgrading. With the recent signings, it looks like the Titans are well on their way to solidifying the line.

Also, the Titans’ moves might give us an idea about their strategy for the 2025 NFL Draft. They’ve made no moves towards acquiring a new quarterback. Unlike other teams showing interest in top quarterbacks, the Titans haven’t pursued big names like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers. Instead, they might be considering top prospects like Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter—both talented players who could be seen as “generational.”

Yet, it seems they’re setting the stage to select Cam Ward. If the Titans believe he can transform the team, they’ll likely choose him with their first overall pick. After three tough seasons, they need something to reignite the fanbase’s excitement. Relying on veterans like Will Levis and Mac Jones might not be enough to generate buzz.

With the draft just weeks away, it’s becoming clearer that Ward could be the team’s target. The pressure to make the right choice is intense. The Titans have improved their line, but selecting the right quarterback will be crucial for their future success.
