Governor Greg Abbott recently announced that Texas is investing over $15 million in career training grants. This funding, awarded through the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant program, aims to enhance career and technical education (CTE) across the state. The program is managed by the Texas Workforce Commission.
Paris Independent School District (ISD) received $349,362 from this grant to boost its CTE program, specifically in healthcare. With this funding, the school district has been able to acquire state-of-the-art equipment that reflects what students will encounter in real healthcare settings. Here’s what they’ve added:
- Anatomage Tables: Two advanced 3D systems for interactive anatomy lessons, helping students explore the human body in a hands-on way.
- Nursing Anne Geriatric Simulator: A realistic simulator that allows students to practice nursing skills focused on elderly patient care.
- AED Trainer Bundles: Two sets to train students on how to use automated external defibrillators in emergencies.
- CPR Training Manikins: Seven manikins for effective practice of life-saving CPR techniques.
- Hospital Beds: Three beds that provide a realistic environment for learning patient care and hospital protocols.
- ECG Machines: Three machines to help students learn about heart monitoring and interpretations.
This is the second time Paris ISD has received the JET grant. Kelly Stapleton, the Career and Technology Education Director, shared, “We have received 100% of the equipment ordered through this grant. Our health science students are using them at Paris Junior High and Paris High School. This investment ensures students have access to modern tools to prepare them for their future careers in health sciences and beyond.”
