Unlocking Potential: How Lock Haven University Foundation Transforms Lives Through Generous Giving

Lock Haven University has seen an impressive wave of generosity, raising over $2.8 million in new gifts and pledges during the last fiscal year. This support is a game-changer for students at Commonwealth University (CU)-Lock Haven.

The Lock Haven University Foundation (LHUF) didn’t stop at just fundraising. They also gave $1.72 million directly to the university. This funding has boosted student scholarships, academic programs, and athletics, ensuring students have the resources to thrive.

“Our donors send a powerful message to students: you matter,” said Dr. Jeffrey L. Osgood, Interim President of CU. This support is vital in a time when education access can feel challenging.

In total, LHUF received 5,590 donations from 2,083 unique donors, with many gifts coming from first-time givers. Almost 80% of donations were under $100, highlighting how small contributions can collectively make a significant impact.

Major donations also saw growth, with $1.2 million coming from planned gifts, making up 43% of the total raised. This shows how generous supporters are thinking long-term about student needs. Moreover, 20 major gifts of $25,000 or more were recorded this year, including support from many first-time major donors.

The year featured a milestone—the 10th anniversary of LHUF’s All In Day of Giving, which raised an astounding $273,000, the highest ever! Over 1,300 donors came together to support students, showcasing the community’s commitment to education.

The Foundation’s endowment now sits at $18.5 million, with a future estate pipeline over $10.7 million. This solidifies LHUF’s role in shaping brighter futures for students.

This year alone, over 400 students benefited from LHUF scholarships, receiving around $700,000 in support. That financial assistance helps students continue their education without as much stress.

Engagement from alumni is instrumental. More than 1,100 students interacted with 204 alumni volunteers, an increase from 175 last year. These connections provide mentoring opportunities that can change the trajectory of many young lives.

A senior communication major, Alyssa Fohl, shared how scholarship support changed her life: “It allows me to focus fully on my academics and embrace opportunities that once felt out of reach.” Her gratitude reflects the transformative power of giving.

Understanding the importance of philanthropy, CU’s Vice President for Advancement, Erik Evans, emphasizes that it is foundational to student success. Every dollar raised not only aids in funding but fosters a supportive community. “We’re building a lasting legacy of impact,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Foundation aims to continue enhancing access and equity for students, ensuring quality education remains alive for future generations. Dr. Stephen Lee, Vice President for Enrollment Management, adds, “Every gift and every donor makes a difference.”

This remarkable year of giving reminds us what can be achieved when the Lock Haven family unites. For more information on how to support CU-Lock Haven students through LHUF, visit their official website: www.lhufoundation.org.
