Tripura is poised to become a key player in the IT and data sectors of Northeast India. With its strong internet links through Bangladesh and good access to power and water, it’s an attractive location for data centers. S. Krishnan, the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, highlighted these points while launching Tripura’s Cyber Security Policy 2025 in Agartala.
During the event, Krishnan remarked that recent changes in US visa rules and tariffs might benefit India. He suggested that states like Tripura could host global centers, enabling further growth in the tech sector.
Data privacy and cyber resilience took center stage as Krishnan pointed out the complexities in verifying hardware and software sources. He noted that the Ministry employs trusted systems-on-chips in all internet-enabled devices to protect against vulnerabilities.
Tripura’s new cyber policy aims to enhance collaboration among government agencies, ensuring safety in critical sectors like banking and healthcare. This framework will strengthen local IT systems and build capacity across the public and private sectors.
The “Cyber Bharat Setu” initiative aims to create a resilient digital landscape in India. It encourages sharing cybersecurity intelligence and enhancing preparedness through community workshops. Dr. Sanjay Bahl from CERT-In, and other officials, emphasized the initiative’s role in protecting national security and infrastructure.
This focus on cybersecurity comes at an important time. According to a report from Cybersecurity Ventures, cybercrime damages are projected to reach $10.5 trillion annually by 2025. As more businesses move online, enhancing cybersecurity measures becomes crucial.
