Previously, Luke worked as an assistant headteacher in West Oxfordshire before taking on the exciting role at Rendcomb. Growing up in the East Midlands, he moved to Gloucestershire in 2000 for university and has lived in the area ever since with his wife and two daughters.
His passion for teaching came from his own PE teacher, who encouraged him to pursue a career in education, highlighting the area’s beauty and great teacher training programs.
Luke has gained valuable experience in various schools, including Tewkesbury and Chipping Norton, where he honed his skills over 16 years.
At Rendcomb College, students can participate in several sports, including rugby, hockey, lacrosse, football, netball, cricket, and tennis. Plus, they can explore other activities through co-curricular programs like clay pigeon shooting and equestrian events.
The lacrosse team has even reached the national quarter-finals, thanks to top-notch coaching. In recent clay shooting contests, they have competed against elite schools like Harrow and Eton, showcasing their talent.
The college also offers unique activities, such as rock climbing, padel, mountain biking, fencing, and golf.
Rendcomb College boasts excellent facilities: two astroturf pitches, tennis courts, a sports hall, a strength and conditioning gym, and a mountain bike track. Students can also access local golf courses and the stunning South Cerney lakes.
The school prioritizes a personalized experience in sports. A dedicated head of engagement works closely with students to create activities that inspire enjoyment and skill development.
To help talented students, Rendcomb has an athlete performance program designed to challenge and encourage them, promoting leadership and mentoring in sports.
Success in sports translates well into other areas of life. It boosts confidence, teamwork, and discipline. Students learn valuable skills like leadership and time management, which enhance their academic performance.
Engaging in sports leads to a strong work ethic and healthy lifestyle choices, preparing students for challenges beyond the field.
Luke enjoys a variety of sports, including rugby, football, and even ice hockey and lacrosse. He believes trying different sports is a great way to meet new people and bond with friends.
As a coach at Cirencester Hockey Club, he loves coaching rugby for its tactical depth. He’s had the chance to coach football at high levels, including training with youth players at Arsenal FC.
Watching sports is also a favorite pastime for Luke. He finds it relaxing and a chance to learn. He supports Nottingham Forest and enjoys attending games at Kingsholm to cheer for the Cherry and Whites!
