University of Minnesota leaders recently shared insights on the school’s progress in a meeting with the Board of Regents. President Rebecca Cunningham and Provost Gretchen Ritter discussed the new University Performance and Accountability Report, which tracks key metrics across all five campuses.
Cunningham emphasized the University’s mission to serve students and the state. She explained that it’s important to set metrics that reflect both the University’s progress and its role in the community. “Our goal is to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students and stakeholders,” she stated.
The report covers a variety of metrics. Traditional measures like graduation rates and research funding are included. New benchmarks such as faculty tenure and sustainability are also being introduced. These will help the University assess its long-term impact.
Ritter pointed out that with the launch of their strategic plan, “Elevate Extraordinary 2030,” there are opportunities to explore additional success metrics. “We aim to understand the University’s effect on the state and how the public views us,” she noted.
The finalized report will return for review in February 2026.
During the meeting, the Board also acknowledged several key individuals. Outgoing Chancellor Janet Ericksen and Dr. Shashank Priya were recognized for their contributions, along with others who have played significant roles in the University’s success.
In addition, updates were provided on early actions linked to “Elevate Extraordinary 2030,” as well as plans for student experiential learning. The Board also discussed upcoming budget variables for fiscal 2027 and highlighted the importance of career preparation for students.
The Board encourages input from the public through its Virtual Forum, where comments are collected and shared with Regents.
