SLB, a global energy technology leader, is teaming up with Star Energy Geothermal, part of Indonesia’s top renewable energy firm, Barito Renewables. Their goal? To speed up the use of advanced technologies in geothermal asset development.
This partnership combines Star Energy Geothermal’s deep expertise in geothermal projects with SLB’s years of experience in energy technology. They plan to work together to create solutions that not only improve how geothermal projects are run but also enhance the energy output from existing geothermal resources.
“Collaborating with customers is key to driving impactful technology in the geothermal sector,” said Irlan Amir from SLB. He believes that by aligning their efforts, they can reduce risks and costs associated with geothermal projects, ensuring this energy source remains a viable option.
Optimising well placement
Previously, SLB has partnered with Star Energy Geothermal to develop technologies that enhance well placement and use artificial intelligence to make drilling more efficient. This new agreement will focus on further improving how they identify and utilize geothermal resources through advanced techniques in subsurface characterization, drilling, and production.
“We aim to be one of the leading geothermal companies worldwide,” stated Hendra Soetjipto Tan, CEO of Star Energy Geothermal. Currently, the company manages 886 MW of electricity capacity. He believes that by applying innovative technologies, they can improve both the efficiency and economic viability of their geothermal projects, breaking through the barriers that have limited the growth of geothermal energy globally.
