Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently spoke at the 75th foundation day of IIT Kharagpur, emphasizing the institute’s role as a leader in innovation. He stated that India’s pursuit of knowledge aims to shape the future of humanity.
Pradhan highlighted the importance of looking forward, saying, “Instead of asking what job you will get, think about what change you can create.” His vision for a “Viksit Bharat” focuses on advancements in clean energy and healthcare for rural areas.
Sukanta Majumdar, a Union Minister, pointed out that IITs have historical significance, originating from a region known for its cultural and scientific contributions. He believes these institutes should honor that legacy and serve as beacons of knowledge for all parts of the nation.
Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, discussed how India’s independence depends on its grasp of technology and innovation, not just territorial claims. He urged the new generation to harness their skills to secure the nation’s future, stating, “You will decide if India commands its destiny or relinquishes it.” Adani remarked that the current battles are fought in data and technology, not on traditional battlefields.
IIT Kharagpur’s director, Prof. Suman Chakraborty, celebrated the institute’s past 75 years of achievements and expressed readiness to tackle new challenges, especially at the intersection of digital and biological technologies.
