Hyderabad: Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma recently announced he is retiring from Test cricket, a decision that left fans heartbroken. Rohit finishes his Test career with 4,301 runs from 116 innings and an average of 40.57. He stepped away just before an upcoming Test series against England, missing the chance to become India’s leading six-hitter in this format.

As a captain, Rohit led the Indian Test team to 12 victories out of 24 matches, with a win percentage of 50%. He faced nine losses and had three draws during his tenure.

One of the significant milestones he narrowly missed was becoming the Indian batter with the most sixes in Test cricket. Currently, that record belongs to Virender Sehwag, who hit 90 sixes in his Test career. Rohit managed 88 sixes, falling just three short.

While retirement marks the end of his Test journey, Rohit continues to play in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has amassed over 11,000 runs with a striking average of 48.76 in ODIs, along with a remarkable 344 sixes, placing him second overall in ODIs for sixes.

In T20Is, he retired after India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, having scored 4,231 runs with a strike rate of 140.89 and hitting 205 sixes.

His recent performance in IPL 2025 was commendable, with 300 runs from 11 matches. Although the league has seen a one-week suspension, his leadership has already led the Mumbai Indians to five championships, making them one of the most successful franchises in cricket history.

Rohit’s contributions to cricket, especially his entertaining style of play and leadership, will be missed on the Test stage, but his legacy continues in ODIs and T20s.
