Unlocking the Power of AI: How Elation Health’s Native EHR Features Enhance Patient Care

Healthcare providers are increasingly looking to improve their Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems by integrating artificial intelligence (AI). One standout in this field is Elation Health, based in San Francisco, which emphasizes the need for AI tools that are built directly into their EHR platform, rather than as separate add-ons.

Kyna Fong, the co-founder and CEO of Elation, points out a long-standing issue. Many traditional EHR vendors find it difficult to innovate quickly. Fong, who has impressive credentials including a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford and a background in health policy, explains that legacy systems often struggle to keep up with modern needs.

“We’re making AI an integral part of our platform,” Fong says. This approach allows workflows to be more efficient. When AI is embedded directly, it enhances the user experience. In contrast, using separate AI tools can lead to complications in managing them.

Fong highlights the complexity providers face when purchasing multiple point solutions for different needs. “It can get messy and costly,” she notes. Instead, Elation’s focus is on simplicity and effectiveness.

To illustrate this, Fong describes the new features Elation is rolling out. One feature is a task automation tool. During patient visits, this tool identifies actions that need to be taken, such as referrals or prescription renewals, allowing providers to complete tasks with just one click.

Another innovative feature, called Clinical Insights, pulls relevant data from various parts of the patient’s chart. This helps doctors prepare for encounters by summarizing the most important information, saving them time and effort.

Additionally, Elation offers a feature called Wordsmith, which uses generative AI to assist with post-visit communications. This tool enables providers to customize their messages to reflect their preferred tone and style, making patient interactions feel more personal.

Fong also emphasizes the importance of user-friendly design, especially for smaller practices that may not have extensive IT support. “Our goal is to create tools that are intuitive and easy to use,” she says. “Clinical first, ease of use.”

As AI continues to evolve, its role in healthcare is becoming more central. A recent study shows that nearly 80% of healthcare executives believe AI will revolutionize patient care in the coming years. Features like those offered by Elation Health could pave the way for a smoother, more efficient healthcare experience—one that prioritizes both provider needs and patient outcomes.
