UK’s true value is measured by its long-term impact. Since Eli Capilouto became president, enrollment has risen by over 10,000 students, and the graduation rate has improved significantly. Research funding has surged nearly 50%, providing Kentucky with an economic boost of over $1 billion. Even more impressive is the increase in degrees awarded, up from 5,835 in 2010-11 to 9,772 in 2024-25, marking a 67% rise. Each of these numbers represents individuals whose lives have changed for the better.

Centralizing Departments

Many questions have been raised about centralizing departments within UK. This isn’t a sudden shift but a strategy that’s been in place for over a decade. By centralizing functions like academic advising, students receive better and more consistent guidance. This also helps IT become more secure by consolidating processes, ensuring a safer environment.

These changes don’t mean layoffs or reduced benefits. Most staff members will see only a change in reporting lines, not their day-to-day tasks.

Job Outsourcing and Partnerships

Questions about job outsourcing have arisen. It’s essential to clarify that no one will lose their job or see a pay cut. UK plans to work with specialized providers for services like dining and maintenance. This model, used successfully for years in other areas like campus dining, allows for better service and cost savings. It’s not just about labels; it’s about fair treatment and value for everyone involved.

Understanding LLCs at UK

Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) are part of UK’s standard practice and have been for a while. They help manage resources without losing public accountability. For instance, when community hospitals joined UK, LLCs allowed for faster investments while ensuring pay and benefits for existing staff remained intact. This structure supports UK’s commitment to improving health in Kentucky.
