Unlocking Viksit Bharat: A 11-Year Journey of India’s Remarkable Development and Nation-Building Progress

As India races toward its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, the last decade has seen significant changes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on reform, performance, and transformation has altered the landscape. For example, India removed over 1,550 outdated laws, streamlining governance in the process.

In 2017, India made a remarkable leap from 130th to 63rd in the World Bank’s Doing Business Index. This change has fueled a surge in Foreign Direct Investment. The innovation sector skyrocketed, producing 1.6 million startups in just ten years, including 118 unicorns.

India has also become a leader in the fight against climate change. The country set a goal for net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, but efforts suggest this could happen sooner. In partnership with France, India launched the International Solar Alliance in 2015, marking a pivotal moment in renewable energy initiatives. Now, half of the country’s installed electricity capacity comes from non-fossil sources.

During its G20 presidency in 2023, India introduced the Global Biofuels Alliance and expedited its ethanol blending targets. Notably, India has been a strong advocate for accessible healthcare. The “Vaccine Maitri” initiative showcased this during the pandemic, as India distributed millions of vaccines globally while also ensuring its own population was vaccinated.

Health initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat scheme have issued 345 million health cards, providing coverage to many of India’s citizens. This has made healthcare more accessible, particularly for seniors.

Agriculture remains crucial to India’s economy. The government introduced various programs to support farmers, such as soil health cards and crop insurance schemes. These efforts have led to a significant increase in food production over the past decade.

India’s strategy to combat poverty includes one of the world’s largest food security programs, supporting over 800 million people. Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana continue to provide free food grains, reflecting a commitment to welfare.

The concept of “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” or self-reliance, aims to integrate India into global supply chains while promoting local manufacturing. Enhanced defense measures show India’s resolve against terrorism, especially evidenced by recent military actions.

India’s advancements span space exploration, from the Chandrayaan missions to plans for Gaganyaan, the upcoming human spaceflight program. The integration of digital identities like Aadhaar with bank accounts has streamlined welfare programs, ensuring aid reaches those who need it most.

With initiatives like “AI for All” and “One Earth, One Health,” India demonstrates a commitment to global collaboration. This approach, along with the country’s strong and value-driven foreign policy, positions India as a key player in international conversations, from the G7 to the Global South.

These developments illustrate not just achievements but a vision for the future. India’s journey reflects a balance of ambition and actionable strategies, shaping its path toward growth and stability.
