A Punjab Police woman constable named Amandeep Kaur was arrested recently for having 17.71 grams of heroin in Bhatinda. She had caught attention online for sharing videos in her police uniform, showing off a glamorous lifestyle, and breaking several police rules in the process.
Just one day after her arrest, Kaur was fired from her position. The Punjab Police has strict guidelines that prevent officers from posting on social media while in uniform, as well as from engaging in activities that could be seen as professional misconduct. Kaur’s case was a clear violation of these rules.
What makes this story even more shocking is how Kaur presented herself on social media. Her now-deleted profile boasted over 30,000 followers and featured posts that included flashy cars, designer handbags, and even outfits for her pet dog. Some of her videos had Punjabi music playing, including tracks that are critical of the police force itself.
During her arrest, Kaur was reportedly driving a Mahindra Thar when officers found the drugs. Interestingly, she mentioned wanting to speak to a high-ranking IPS officer, possibly hoping to leverage her position.
In one video, a song that poked fun at police was playing in the background. The lyrics questioned how one could stop doing wrong when the police support such behavior. In another, Kaur lip-synced to a popular song while showing off her Thar, which she was seen using without looking back. These posts portrayed a carefree attitude that contradicted her role as a law enforcement officer.
Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill confirmed Kaur’s dismissal, stating it was in line with directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann amid the ongoing battle against drug issues in Punjab. The police also plan to investigate Kaur’s assets to ensure they were not obtained through illegal means.
This incident occurs at a time when drug-related issues are at the forefront in Punjab. According to recent government reports, the state has seen a significant rise in drug abuse cases, highlighting the urgency of strict action against offenders.
