The Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), along with the Global School of Sustainability and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change at LSE, is hosting a webinar called “Climate Accountability and Asmania et al. v. Holcim: Legal Implications and Future Pathways.”
This session will unpack the Asmania et al. v. Holcim case. This case is significant in the climate litigation landscape, especially following the Swiss tribunal’s decision in December 2025. The tribunal addressed critical legal arguments, ruling against many defenses used by Holcim and similar companies to avoid accountability.
But why does this matter beyond this single case? The ruling could influence ongoing and future climate lawsuits in other countries, setting important precedents. As climate change worsens, accountability is becoming a hot topic. According to a recent survey by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, about 70% of Americans now support legal action against polluters.
In this webinar, you’ll hear directly from the plaintiffs and legal experts who are navigating the complex world of climate accountability litigation. Confirmed speakers include:
- Asmania and Arif Pujianto—plaintiffs
- Nina Burri from Hilfswerk der Evangelisch-reformierten Kirche Schweiz (HEKS/EPER)
- Noah Walker-Crawford from the Grantham Research Institute
- Nicole Ann Ponce from World Youth for Climate Justice
- Joyce Kimutai from Imperial College London
- Joie Chowdhury from CIEL
This engaging discussion will also feature a Q&A session, making it a great opportunity to dive deeper into the implications of climate litigation.
If you’re interested, the event will take place on Zoom. You can register here.
