Shaw University is currently facing serious allegations from multiple women’s basketball players regarding harassment by an individual associated with the team. At least one player has reached out to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), urging action.

The complaints involve claims of sexual and mental abuse affecting women linked to the team. In response, Shaw University released a statement acknowledging the allegations. They emphasized that they take such claims seriously but did not provide more details at this stage.

Shaw University senior Kiara Shepherd recently took to TikTok, where she shared her own experiences with the team. Her video has since gone viral, drawing comments from former players who resonated with her story. Shepherd felt compelled to speak out after submitting a formal complaint to the university in February and receiving no response.

“I just want to bring awareness,” Shepherd explained in her video, adding that she had approached the school and human resources looking for help.

Former player Alliyah Chaplin provided further insight, describing an incident where the accused individual made inappropriate remarks. Shepherd reported being removed from the team after feeling uncomfortable during an encounter with this person, stating, “I’m really uncomfortable; why are you touching me?”

Additionally, there are claims of mental abuse within the team. Ex-basketball manager Frantaisa Springs noted how the situation affected her grades and well-being: “He made me feel small.”

Shepherd hopes for a Title IX investigation into the matter. Title IX outlines how educational institutions must handle incidents of sexual assault and harassment.
