A new billboard has appeared above Sunset Boulevard, hinting at the reissue of Buckingham Nicks, the 1973 album by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. This was their first and only record as a duo before they joined Fleetwood Mac the following year.
The colorful billboard features the duo’s famous album cover, showcasing Nicks and Buckingham topless alongside the album title and the release date of September 19. It’s located close to Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, where they recorded the ten-track album. Despite its influential role in their careers, it hasn’t seen a reissue in over fifty years.
Just a week prior, both Nicks and Buckingham teased this upcoming release on social media. Posting complementary lines from the song “Frozen Love,” they stirred excitement among fans. Nicks wrote, “And if you go forward…” while Buckingham added, “I’ll meet you there,” sparking curiosity about what’s to come.
This teaser coincides with Fleetwood Mac’s 50th anniversary, celebrated just earlier this month. Mick Fleetwood reminisced about Nicks and Buckingham joining the band on Instagram: “It’s magic then, it’s magic now.”
However, this news is a bit surprising. Since Buckingham’s departure from Fleetwood Mac in 2018 amid internal conflicts, there’s been a notable rift between him and Nicks. After his firing, Buckingham had open-heart surgery, which caused some vocal cord damage. Meanwhile, Nicks carried on with the band, bringing in new members Mike Campbell and Neil Finn.
While fans are eager for more than just a reissue, Nicks has been vocal about the band’s future, especially following the passing of Christine McVie in November 2022. In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Nicks expressed doubts about continuing without McVie and ruled out any possibility of a farewell tour. She shared that the last time she spoke to Buckingham was at McVie’s memorial—a brief three-minute interaction. “I gave Lindsey more than 300 million chances,” she reflected.
As fans await the release, it remains to be seen what the future holds for this iconic duo and Fleetwood Mac. The relationship dynamics among these legendary artists continue to capture the attention of music lovers everywhere.
