Slippery Rock Survives Late Scare Against Clarion
In an exciting matchup, Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team edged out Clarion with an 80-78 victory. Mayo’s performance stood out: he scored 15 points and grabbed four steals. His consistent scoring has made a difference lately, with him reaching double digits in five of the last six games. Kerwin Prince also excelled, achieving a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
In terms of team stats, Slippery Rock shot impressively, with a field goal percentage of 55.4%. They also dominated rebounding with a 40-28 margin, allowing them significant second-chance points. Despite committing more turnovers than Clarion, they capitalized on the Golden Eagles’ mistakes to score 14 points off turnovers.
This season, the top six teams in both the Western and Eastern Divisions will qualify for the PSAC Tournament. The leading teams earn valuable first-round byes. With five games left, Slippery Rock is in a good position to secure their place in the postseason.
