TROY, Ala. – For senior offensive lineman Garner Langlo, football is more than just a sport; it’s a journey filled with challenges that has tested his faith. Thankfully, his family has always been there to support him.
“This is my first year here, but I feel at home,” Langlo shared about his time at Troy.
Langlo started his college football journey at Auburn, ranked among the top 50 interior linemen by Rivals and 247Sports. He faced some setbacks, redshirting in 2021 and not playing for two seasons. After taking a break from football to work a regular job, he realized something was missing in his life. In April 2024, he decided to re-enter the NCAA transfer portal.
“I can’t tell someone not to quit if I walked away from my chance,” Langlo reflected. “So, I jumped back in, thinking of the brotherhood on the team.”
He moved to Appalachian State, where he played in 10 games and performed well, allowing only one sack in 273 pass-blocking snaps. However, he sought a final destination for his last year of eligibility and once again entered the transfer portal in December 2024.
“I wanted to stay in the Sun Belt, so why not play for the best team?” he said about his decision to come to Troy.
Langlo emphasizes that his choices are driven by faith and family support. “My parents are always behind me. I’m lucky to have them,” he explained. “Family matters, and that’s the culture here.”
His motivation extends beyond himself. “I want to honor my family name,” he noted. “I’m not just ‘that guy.’ I want to be known as a player.”
Outside of football, Lanlgo enjoys hunting and fishing, finding joy in the outdoors. While graduation plans are in the back of his mind, his current focus is clear: putting his all into his final college football season.
In recent years, college athletes like Langlo have become symbols of resilience and determination. According to a survey from the NCAA, nearly 70% of student-athletes reported that family support heavily influences their decisions and overall well-being.
Langlo not only embodies this, but he also shows how important a supportive network can be in overcoming personal and professional challenges. His story serves as an inspiration for others to pursue their passion, no matter the setbacks.
