Betro, a graphic design graduate, arrived in the UK in August 2019. She had met Nazir through a dating app and was drawn into this deadly plan. Her journey was marked by strange choices—she bought a second-hand Mercedes under a fake name and was caught scouting the target’s home.
On the day of the shooting, Betro disguised herself with a niqab but fled when the gun didn’t fire. Later that night, she returned and fired again before escaping to the U.S. This series of events even included a “road trip” with Nazir across the country. All the while, she claimed ignorance of the attempted murder.
Her capture took years and involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Eventually, she was found in Armenia and extradited back to the UK.
During her trial, Betro maintained her innocence, suggesting that another woman was involved. However, the evidence painted a different picture. It showed meticulous planning, making her seem far from a mere bystander. The court deemed her guilty of conspiracy to murder after hours of deliberation.
