Unveiling Clayface: Exciting First Look at Batman’s Gruesome Villain in Teaser Trailer!

Get ready! DC Studios has just dropped the first trailer for the body horror movie Clayface. This comes right after a sneak peek shown only at CinemaCon.

The trailer begins with Matt Hagen, played by Tom Rhys Harries, lying in a hospital bed, bandaged and bloodied. The scenes shift to show different stages of his mutilation, highlighting the effects of a violent attack. In a haunting final shot, Harries’ face morphs dramatically, lacking eyes, nose, and mouth, as he drags his hand over his disfigured features.

Clayface is a notorious shape-shifting villain from the Batman comics. He first appeared in Detective Comics #40 back in June 1940. Originally, he was a successful actor who, after turning to crime, adopted the identity of a monster he once portrayed. Over the years, Clayface has featured in various films, shows, and video games.

In the trailer, we see Clayface wearing a mask and experiencing grotesque transformations. At one point, something appears to be injected into his face as blood is collected for testing. Intercut with these disturbing scenes are quick flashes of the attractive actor, showcasing his former self before the horror unfolds.

Directed by James Watkins, Clayface is a major project for James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios. Originally scheduled for early September, the release has now been pushed to October 23.

Naomi Ackie joins Harries in the cast. We see her alone in one shot, sitting across from Clayface, hinting at a complex relationship.

The script is written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, with production led by The Batman director Matt Reeves, alongside Gunn and Safran. Other executive producers include Michael E. Uslan and Chantal Nong Vo.

With body horror gaining popularity, especially in recent horror films, Clayface taps into a growing audience interested in darker narratives. Experts highlight that filmmakers are pushing boundaries with stories that explore the psychological and physical aspects of fear and transformation.

Notably, surveys show that horror films are among the most anticipated genres for 2023, reflecting an ongoing trend in cinematic storytelling. As fans discuss and share their excitement on social media, it’s clear that Clayface promises to be a riveting addition to the DC Universe.
