A new, lengthy trailer for Death Stranding 2 has arrived, revealing its release date and some intriguing mysteries. One character strongly resembles Snake from the Metal Gear series, sparking curiosity.
The game will be a timed exclusive on PlayStation 5, and big updates came during a SXSW panel with Kojima, along with actors Norman Reedus and Troy Baker. The game is set to launch on June 26, with a collector’s edition priced at $230. This edition features a 15″ Magellan Man statue and other collectibles, such as a letter from Kojima.
The highlight was undoubtedly the new trailer. It kicks off with Neil, a character resembling a spy, portrayed by Luca Marinelli. His mission involves smuggling pregnant women across the U.S.-Mexico border. The trailer pulls you in, evoking strong Metal Gear vibes.
Neal is seen wrapping a bandana around his head and emerging from a burning church alongside skeleton soldiers. It’s like a cult celebration with a dark twist. The trailer also hints at ties to Mads Mikkelsen’s character from the first game and nods towards Kojima’s Metal Gear roots.
Fans quickly noted that Kojima had previously suggested Marinelli could play Snake in a live-action adaptation. This came after Marinelli’s role in the Netflix film Old Guard.
The trailer wraps up with a battle scene featuring Heartman, played by Nicolas Winding Refn, merging his ship to confront a formidable and eerie creature. Since the reveal of Death Stranding 2, many wondered about the necessity of a sequel. But after nearly 30 minutes of carefully crafted trailers, excitement is definitely building.
