We’re getting a first look at the characters from Prime Video’s new series, Spider-Noir, featuring Nicolas Cage in his first leading role on TV. The show is based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir and follows Ben Reilly, known as “The Spider”, played by Cage. Set in 1930s New York, Ben is a private investigator facing personal demons after a tragedy.
Cage’s character moved away from his superhero life, but a significant case brings him back into action. Other characters include Robbie Robertson, portrayed by Lamorne Morris, who is a determined journalist aiming for success in a tough industry. He will do anything to support his best friend, Ben.
Li Jun Li plays Cat Hardy, a nightclub star with hidden depths, while Karen Rodriguez’s character, Janet Smart, is a loyal secretary eager to help Ben thrive.
The series sees a talented cast, including Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson. It’s produced by Sony Pictures Television and directed by Emmy-winning Harry Bradbeer, known for Fleabag and Killing Eve. The show also has a strong production team, which includes Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who won an Oscar for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Noir is set to premiere worldwide this spring. It’ll first air on MGM+ before being available on Prime Video in over 240 countries.
With a resurgence in interest towards vintage styles and noir themes, this show may resonate well with viewers. As of late 2022, reports indicate a growing fascination with retro aesthetics, particularly in film and television. It reflects a broader trend where audiences are captivated by stories that blend nostalgia with modern storytelling.
In summary, Spider-Noir promises a mix of classic noir storytelling with superhero elements, adding a unique view to the Marvel universe. Stay tuned for its release!
