Unveiling Gaganyaan: A Landmark Step Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, Says Rajnath

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently highlighted the significance of the Gaganyaan mission, calling it a fresh chapter for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He referred to the selected astronauts, or Gaganyatris, as the nation’s “gems” and pioneers of India’s ambitious space goals.

At a ceremony held at Subroto Park, organised by the Indian Air Force, Singh celebrated the achievements of the four Gaganyatris—Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla. This event followed the successful Axiom-4 mission, where Shukla represented India.

Singh emphasized that India views space as more than just research; it’s integral to future prosperity, security, and energy. He stated, “We’re moving beyond Earth’s surface into new frontiers of space.”

With past successes like Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan, India has shown that limited resources do not limit ambition. These missions have propelled India into the league of leading space nations, and Gaganyaan is set to push this further.

Interestingly, research shows that public interest in space missions is growing. A recent survey indicated that 73% of Indians support increased investment in space technology, viewing it as crucial for national pride and technological advancement.

As Singh pointed out, India’s space program reflects its aspirations and global vision. It’s about shaping the future, not just meeting immediate goals. The achievements of the Gaganyatris mark a significant milestone, inspiring future generations to dream big in this vast universe.
