Unveiling Gavi: Barcelona’s Rising Star Yamal – The Next Global Football Sensation After Messi!

Barcelona’s midfielder, Gavi, has declared that Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world after Lionel Messi. This claim comes after Yamal’s impressive performance in the 5-1 Copa del Rey victory over Real Betis.

In that match, Yamal scored one goal, assisted two, and had another goal disallowed for offside. He has now netted nine goals and assisted 13 times in just 24 appearances this season.

“Yes, he is. Well, after Messi, he’s the best,” Gavi told reporters when asked about Yamal’s status in the game.

At only 17, Yamal has already made a name for himself. He helped Spain win the European Championship last summer and finished eighth in the Ballon d’Or voting. He also earned the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award, recognizing him as one of the top young players globally.

Yamal has become a key player for Barcelona, with over 70 appearances to his name. During the recent match against Betis, after Gavi opened the score, Yamal brilliantly assisted Jules Koundé for their second goal. Although Koundé’s second goal was ruled offside after a VAR review, it showcased Yamal’s playmaking talent.

Yamal thought he added another goal for his team, but once more, VAR ruled it out. However, he set up Raphinha, who scored after a remarkable solo run. Ferran Torres then scored the fourth goal for Barcelona before Yamal finally found the net, finishing brilliantly after a pass from Fermín López.

Despite the defeat, Vitor Roque, who is on loan at Betis from Barcelona, scored a late consolation goal from a penalty.

Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, echoed Gavi’s admiration for Yamal. “You can see the talent in big matches. He has shown it time and again. We need to take care of him,” he said.

After a slow end to 2024, Barcelona has kicked off 2025 with four consecutive wins, including a significant 5-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Supercopa final. Flick emphasized the need to maintain this form in LaLiga, where they trail Atlético Madrid by six points and Real Madrid by five.

“We need to build on this performance,” Flick added. “Next, we’ll face Getafe on Saturday, and we want to be ready to win.”
