Unveiling Nevada Science Bowl: Celebrating the Brightest Minds in STEM

The Nevada Science Bowl kicked off its 34th year on Saturday, celebrating student talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

This year, 118 students from 20 high schools competed for a top prize of $5,000 and a spot in the Department of Energy National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., happening from April 24-28.

The event began bright and early at 7:30 a.m. at the College of Southern Nevada’s North Las Vegas campus.

Betty Huck, manager of the Nevada Field Office for the National Nuclear Security Administration, shared her enthusiasm for the event. She remarked, “The Science Bowl showcases our best students. STEM education helps develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for future leaders.”

In this exciting competition, students faced off in a fast-paced quiz format, competing over 12 rounds. The winners were set to be announced later that afternoon.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top 12 teams, benefiting their schools’ math and science programs.

Every year, more than 15,000 students across the country vie for the chance to represent their schools in the National Science Bowl, which is the largest and most respected science competition in the nation.

The 2025 Nevada Science Bowl is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration, Mission Support and Test Services LLC, and Environmental Management Nevada Program Services.
