New Jersey doesn’t have an official state food, and that’s a little surprising. With so many delicious choices, it seems like it’s time to settle on one.
New Jersey is known for its iconic cuisine. While we do have the blueberry as our state fruit, it’s about time we claim a dish that represents us fully.
There are so many options that reflect our culture and heritage. Here are five foods that make a great case for New Jersey’s official state food:
- Salt Water Taffy – This sweet treat is a classic found on our boardwalks. It has a rich history, having been created in Atlantic City in the 1880s.
- Pizza – New Jersey is home to some of the best pizza in the country. In fact, a recent survey showed that 60% of locals believe our pizza outshines others from around the U.S. Who can argue with that?
- Pork Roll, Egg & Cheese – This breakfast favorite has sparked friendly debates. Is it Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? Regardless, it’s a must-have for many New Jerseyans.
- Chicken Parm – This dish has become a staple in many local Italian restaurants. Each establishment puts its own twist on it, making it a unique experience every time.
- Bagels – New Jerseyans take pride in our bagels. Statistics show that our bagels have a distinct boil-and-bake method that gives them unbeatable flavor and texture.
