Recent leaks indicate that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are expected to outperform the RX 7900 GRE significantly.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Expected to Rival RTX 4080 with Enhanced Ray Tracing
AMD is set to unveil its Radeon RX 9070 series on February 28. However, benchmark slides have already surfaced, hinting at impressive performance for these new RDNA 4 graphics cards.
Initial results from AMD show that the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 may provide a substantial upgrade over mid-range options like the RX 7900 GRE. This could position AMD favorably against NVIDIA, whose recent offerings have not met expectations.
According to the leaked slides from Videocardz, the RX 9070 XT is around 38% faster than the RX 7900 GRE at 1440p and 42% at 4K. These figures reflect real-time performance in games, showing solid improvements in native resolution gaming.
When stacked against NVIDIA’s previous-gen cards, the RX 9070 is seen as comparable to the GeForce RTX 4080 and 4080 Super. This aligns with earlier leaks, adding credibility to these performance claims. Notably, the RX 9070 XT shows significant advantages in Ray Tracing over the RX 7900 GRE, making the RDNA 4 lineup competitive in that area as well.
Performance Overview: RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 vs RX 7900 GRE
- RX 9070 XT vs RX 7900 GRE, 1440p: 38%
- RX 9070 XT vs RX 7900 GRE, 4K: 42%
- RX 9070 vs RX 7900 GRE, 1440p: 20%
- RX 9070 vs RX 7900 GRE, 4K: 21%
The RX 9070 also performs admirably, showing about a 20-21% improvement over the RX 7900 GRE at both resolutions. Performance can vary between different games, but the testing covers more than 30 games, showcasing the RX 9070 XT’s advantages.
Though the RX 9070 XT shares the same memory capacity as the RX 7900 GRE, the advancements in architecture are significant. Pricing will be crucial; with the RTX 5070 Ti costing around $749, AMD will need to set a lower price for the RX 9070 XT to capture market interest. Currently, RTX 5070 Ti availability is limited, often exceeding $1,000. This could give AMD an edge unless the pricing strategy changes.
We’ll soon see real-world performance as independent reviews roll out, ultimately determining the RX 9070 series’ success. Meanwhile, it will officially launch on March 6, so the anticipation continues.
