Actor Award Nominations Bring Surprises and Snubs
This year’s Actor Award nominations, announced by breakout star Connor Storrie and Janelle James from “Abbott Elementary,” have generated plenty of buzz. While Connor’s mustache may have drawn attention, it’s the nominations that really stole the show.
The awards, presented by SAG-AFTRA, recognize outstanding performances in film and television. Many nominees surprised fans, especially with the “this, but not that” approach some categories took.
Notable Nominations
Ariana Grande received recognition for her role in “Wicked: For Good,” while her co-star Cynthia Erivo didn’t get a nod, raising eyebrows among fans. Similarly, Adam Brody earned a nomination for his comedic role as a lovestruck rabbi in “Nobody Wants This.” However, Kristen Bell, who plays his love interest, was left out.
Another surprising snub was Wagner Moura, widely considered a frontrunner for his portrayal of a teacher under a military dictatorship in “The Secret Agent.” His omission highlighted a lack of international nominees this season.
In contrast, Seth Rogen’s series “The Studio,” which pokes fun at Hollywood, fared well, showcasing the industry’s affinity for self-referential content.
Rising Stars and Award Trends
This award season has revealed some favorites. Timothée Chalamet’s performance in “Marty Supreme” and the star-studded cast in “One Battle After Another” are generating lots of buzz. In fact, “One Battle After Another” led the nominations with seven in total.
Horror films are also gaining traction, as seen with “Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler. It received several nominations that could pave the way for more horror recognition in future awards.

In fact, 62% of viewers believe that inclusivity should be a priority for award nominations moving forward.
