Unveiling Samsung’s Innovative Tri-Fold Phone: Highlights from the APEC Summit in South Korea

Samsung recently showcased its new tri-fold foldable phone at the APEC CEO Summit in South Korea. This innovative device, still unnamed, is set to launch in November or December, according to a report by Dailian.

Unlike Samsung’s previous foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, which fold in half, this device features two hinges. When folded, it has a 6.5-inch screen, and once unfolded, it expands to a 10-inch display. For comparison, dual-screen foldables typically have inner screens of around 8 inches. The Z Fold 7 has one crease on its main screen, while the new tri-fold may feature two.

Since the release of the first Galaxy Fold in 2019, Samsung has led the foldable phone market. However, it faces stiff competition from Huawei, which launched the tri-fold Mate XT in 2024. With its latest offering, Samsung aims to reclaim its place as a leader in smartphone design, particularly with Apple yet to release its own foldable.

Interestingly, the design of both tri-folds differs. The Huawei Mate XT folds in the opposite direction, creating a Z shape, whereas Samsung’s design is described as “G-shaped” by Dailian. This raises questions about why Samsung chose this naming convention for its Z-series.

The new device is expected to be more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which retails starting at $2,000 in the U.S. However, details on its durability and functionality are still unclear as Samsung has not provided further insights. For years, Samsung has displayed various flexible designs at events like CES, building anticipation for a tri-fold device.

As we wait for the official reveal, it’s worth noting that foldable tech continues to evolve. According to a recent survey by International Data Corporation, the global market for foldable devices is expected to grow by over 30% in the next few years. This underscores the potential demand for innovative designs in the smartphone market.

While Samsung has yet to comment on the new device’s features, the tech community remains eager to see how it competes with existing products and shapes the future of mobile technology. For now, all eyes are on Samsung as it prepares to make waves once again in the foldable landscape.
