Tennessee Football shared its first depth chart on Saturday as they prepare for the opener against Syracuse this weekend. Here’s a breakdown of the team’s lineup.
Quarterback
Joey Aguilar has been named the starting quarterback. He impressed in training, outperforming redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and freshman George MacIntyre. Last season, Aguilar threw for over 6,700 yards, highlighting his strong performance at Appalachian State.
Running Back
DeSean Bishop returns as the leading rusher. He recorded 455 yards and three touchdowns last season. Joining him are Peyton Lewis and Duke transfer Star Thomas, who had a solid season with 810 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Wide Receivers
Tennessee faces a challenge here, with the top three receivers from last season gone. The new group includes Chris Brazzell II, Mike Matthews, and a few promising freshmen. Brazzell, last season, caught 29 passes for 333 yards.
Tight Ends
Miles Kitselman was a standout last season with 22 catches. New talent like freshmen Van Dorselaer and Brame adds depth to this position.
Offensive Line
The offensive line is starting fresh after losing several key players. Lance Heard is the only returning starter. Tennessee recruited five-star David Sanders Jr., who is expected to make an impact.
Defense
Arion Carter led the defense last season with 68 tackles. Joshua Josephs and Bryson Eason made significant contributions with tackles for loss. However, Jermod McCoy is working his way back from an ACL injury.
Special Teams
Boo Carter excelled as a punt returner, averaging 16.5 yards per return. Kicker Max Gilbert had a solid year, making 20 of 26 field goals, with a long of 52 yards. Punter Jackson Ross averaged nearly 44 yards per punt last season.
As the Vols gear up for their season opener, fans are excited to see how this new lineup performs on the field. The shift in player dynamics and fresh talent may bring a new spark to the team.
