It’s been over eight months since Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was first revealed, and we still haven’t seen any new character announcements. However, new information suggests we now know how many characters will be available when the game launches.
The Steam store page for Marvel Tokon has been updated, revealing exciting new details. The highlight? The game will feature 20 iconic Marvel characters at launch. Each character will be presented in a fresh anime-inspired art style. You’ll be able to build your dream team and engage in intense 4v4 battles.
So, we have a confirmed lineup of 20 fighters, which implies a focused selection rather than a vast roster. Up until now, only eight characters have been mentioned: Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Doctor Doom, Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, and Ghost Rider. This leaves 12 more characters yet to be revealed.
Many fans might have expected a larger roster for a 4v4 game. Recent fighting games have generally launched with smaller character pools. For comparison, 2XKO started with only 10 characters last year. In contrast, the game Invincible VS will debut with 18.
There are countless Marvel characters to choose from, including favorites like Wolverine, Thor, and Deadpool. However, not every fan-favorite will make it into the starting lineup.
What’s promising for players is that with the backing of PlayStation and Marvel, there will likely be ongoing support for new characters post-launch. But how quickly these fighters will be released remains to be seen.
Another update from the Steam page mentions that players will need a PlayStation account to play online on PC. Also, the game will feature a single-player mode to explore character backstories further.
While there’s no set release date yet, the absence of Marvel Tokon in the upcoming Evo 2026 lineup suggests it may arrive in the latter half of 2026. More details should be available soon, with a big reveal scheduled for February 12.
