Aston Martin has just unveiled its new Formula 1 car for 2025, called the AMR25. This car comes with some big changes, especially in the sidepods, which are different from the previous AMR24 model. Unlike Ferrari, Aston Martin has chosen to keep the pushrod front suspension and has also applied this design to the rear of the car.
The team has kept the same color scheme from 2024, which was first shown along with the other F1 teams’ liveries at the F175 event. Last season was tough for Aston Martin. They finished fifth in the constructors’ standings and did not earn any podium finishes, a stark contrast to the eight podiums they achieved in 2023.
Fernando Alonso, one of the team’s drivers, said, “We learnt a lot in 2024, and that’s driving us as we enter this new season with the AMR25. The competition will be fierce this year, but I’m confident the team has been working hard at the AMRTC to prepare.” His teammate Lance Stroll added that the entire team has switched gears during the winter to come back stronger in 2025, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning throughout the year.
The AMR25 represents a significant project for Aston Martin. The team has taken feedback from both Alonso and Stroll, aiming to improve its performance in low-speed corners and overall handling. This car is the first to fully benefit from their new and improved factory, located near the Silverstone race track. Having a modern, well-equipped facility allows for a more thorough design process, which can lead to a more refined car right from production.
Andy Cowell, the new team principal, highlighted the advantages of the upgraded factory, explaining that it allowed for more design time before the AMR25 moved into production. This means they can spend more time perfecting the car before it hits the track.
Alonso and Stroll are set to complete a filming day with the AMR25 in Bahrain soon, as they prepare for pre-season testing, which kicks off on February 26-28 at the Sakhir circuit.
This season is crucial for Aston Martin. They need to demonstrate to team owner Lawrence Stroll that the team is on an upward trajectory after a rocky start to 2023. With a redesigned car and renewed focus, they are hoping to reclaim their place in the competitive F1 landscape.
