Toyota is gearing up to launch a fresh version of its popular Highlander for the 2027 model year. What sets this Highlander apart? It’s the first electric Highlander ever, marking Toyota’s entry into the electric three-row SUV market.
The base model features a 77.0-kWh battery, providing up to 270 miles of range, while an upgraded version boasts a larger 95.8-kWh battery that can extend the range to 320 miles. This upgrade is significant for families looking for greater efficiency.
The new Highlander EV comes in two trims: XLE and Limited. The XLE offers both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive options, while the Limited is exclusively all-wheel drive. The base XLE produces 221 horsepower with a single motor, whereas the upgraded XLE with all-wheel drive ramp up to 338 horsepower.
This model also includes innovative features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, which allows users to power external devices directly from the vehicle. Inside, it’s loaded with tech, featuring a 14.0-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plus, there’s a digital instrument cluster and customizable ambient lighting.
In terms of safety, the Highlander continues Toyota’s tradition of prioritizing it. It includes Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, which encompasses advanced features like pre-collision systems and adaptive cruise control. This reflects Toyota’s commitment to making safe vehicles more accessible.
Pricing for the 2027 Highlander EV is still under wraps, but estimates suggest it will start around $48,000. Compared to the current gas model, which starts at $47,070, this seems reasonable for an electric vehicle.
