A recent survey by GEM Partners collected insights from 180,000 gamers aged 15-69 in Japan. They discovered intriguing stats about gender and age preferences across various Nintendo franchises.

The findings, shared by sources like Nikkei and MyNintendoNews, indicate that Nintendo games generally attract more female fans compared to others.

For instance, the fanbase for Animal Crossing is predominantly female, with 75% of players identifying as women and an average age of 35. The Kirby series also appeals to a significant female demographic, with 55% female players and an average age of 30.

In contrast, franchises like Pokémon and Zelda show a more balanced gender split at 60% male to 40% female. This shift is notable compared to the broader gaming landscape, where the typical gender divide is 75% male to 25% female among gamers aged 30 and over.

Mario games follow a 70-30 split, with players averaging 32 years old. More contemporary games, like Splatoon, attract younger audiences with a 65-35 male-female ratio among players under 30.

Interestingly, two classic RPGs, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, have an average player age of 42, making them among the oldest player demographics in this survey. Meanwhile, mobile gaming shows a younger audience overall, but Nintendo still draws in many players over 30, which may come as a surprise.
