The tri-fold phone market is heating up with the Huawei Mate XT, now available worldwide. This phone has made history as the first tri-fold device you can buy, and Huawei is excited to highlight its achievements.

Unlike standard foldable phones that only offer two screen options, the Mate XT introduces a third mode, similar to a tablet. You can use it when it’s open, closed, or fully extended for a more significant display.
Initially launched in China, the Mate XT is finally rolling out to global markets, except the US. While other brands, like Samsung, have explored tri-fold designs, Huawei is leading the way with a finished product.
This smartphone features two hinges, and one side has a delicate foldable glass edge. When closed, it measures just 6.4 inches. Open it up once, and you get a 7.9-inch screen; unfold it again, and you have a generous 10.2-inch display, comparable to a modern tablet.
Huawei is proud to call the Mate XT the largest tri-fold device currently available. While this claim holds true, it’s mainly because no other tri-fold phone has hit the market yet. As more companies dive into this technology, we may see different sizes and designs emerge. Huawei also asserts that the Mate XT is the thinnest foldable phone when opened, measuring only 3.6mm, beating competitors like the Oppo Find N5.
When folded, the Mate XT has a thickness of 10.8mm. This striking device is sure to turn heads and is now accessible to users outside of China.
