The Subaru logo is more than just a design. It tells the story of how the company began. The name “Subaru” means “unite” in Japanese. In 1953, five companies came together to create Fuji Heavy Industries, now known as Subaru Corporation. The logo reflects this merger with five smaller stars representing the original companies, and the larger star stands for Subaru itself.
Interestingly, the stars symbolize the Pleiades star cluster, also called the Seven Sisters. Subaru leans into this connection; while there are only six stars in the logo, the seventh is too faint to see. The arrangement of the stars even hints at an “S” for Subaru.
Color matters too. The blue represents reliability and trust, while the silver highlights quality and engineering excellence. These elements form Subaru’s core identity, emphasizing innovation and progress.
Badge Variations
Subaru’s performance division, Subaru Technica International (STI), has a unique badge too. It features a striking cherry blossom color called sakura no iro. Look closely at classic STI models, and you might spot this pinkish-red logo. This color pays homage to Japan’s beloved cherry blossom trees.
Some badges retain the six stars, while others have a simple lowercase “i” instead, likely referring to the Impreza model. It’s a rare find outside Japan, making these older badges special for enthusiasts.
