These ancient sloths, resembling huge hamsters, could grow up to four meters long. Between 15 million and 10,000 years ago, nearly 100 different species of sloths roamed the Americas. They had massive claws that made digging tunnels feasible. Some researchers believe that sloths might have used these tunnels as shelters, adapting them for shelter over generations.
