Universal has just unveiled a trailer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, “The Odyssey.” This adaptation of Homer’s epic showcases Matt Damon as Odysseus, who faces off against a Cyclops. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson plays Antinous, a rival aiming for the throne of Ithaca.
The trailer premiered on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” sparking excitement among fans. The film features a star-studded cast, including:
- Anne Hathaway as Penelope
- Tom Holland as Telemachus
- Zendaya as Athena
- Charlize Theron as Circe
- Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, and many more rounding out the ensemble.
This is Nolan’s 13th directorial effort. He penned the screenplay and produces with Emma Thomas under their company, Syncopy. Universal Pictures will be distributing the film.
Nolan’s last project, “Oppenheimer,” was a huge success, earning nearly $959 million and winning seven Oscars, including Best Picture. Now, “The Odyssey” finds itself releasing on July 17, the same day as Disney’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” raising the stakes for box office competition.
Interestingly, “The Odyssey” will be the first film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. In a unique marketing move, tickets for 70mm screenings were released a year early, back in July 2025.
This project not only revives a classic tale, but it also reflects today’s trends in cinema, where epic storytelling and impressive visuals dominate. As excitement builds, many fans are turning to social media to discuss their anticipation. This film could redefine how we engage with ancient stories through modern filmmaking techniques.
